FAQs

Is it necessary to have a dance partner to learn how to dance?

No, learning how to dance does not require a dance partner. You can learn to dance by yourself or with a dance partner of your choice. If you don’t have a partner, no worries, we have a supportive group of teachers and teaching assistants that we can pair you with so you have an opportunity to dance with a partner. We welcome everyone of all ages to learn to dance in an environment where you can feel comfortable learning and growing at your own pace.

What to expect for your first dance lesson?

During your first dance lesson, you can expect to be introduced to the basics of the dance style you have decided to learn and begin developing your confidence in your ability to dance. You’ll also have the opportunity to get to know your dance instructor and ask any questions you may have.

Don’t worry if you make mistakes or feel nervous – everyone starts somewhere, and our expert team of instructors will be there to guide you every step of the way.

What type of shoes should I wear?

If you are just starting out and do not have dance shoes, wear any shoes that are you are comfortable in and provide adequate support for your feet as you will be standing for most of the time. As you progress in your dance journey, we recommend to invest in a pair of quality dance shoes to enhance your performance and prevent injury.

Ballroom and Latin dance shoes typically have a suede sole that allows for smooth gliding and turning on the dance floor. The heel of the shoe is usually between 1 to 3 inches, depending on the dancer’s preference and level of experience. They are made of leather or suede and come in a variety of styles and colours to match your dance attire.

Please reach out to us if you are interested in buying a pair of dance shoes.

What clothes should I wear?

For group classes and dance lessons, we recommend wearing comfortable clothing that allows for ease of movement. Clothing that isn’t too restrictive or bulky will help you move more freely such as wearing jeans and a t-shirt for men or yoga pants and a t-shirt for ladies. As long as you’re comfortable, that’s all that matters.

For social dances and dance events, we recommend business casual attire for men, such as dress pants and a shirt, and for ladies, a favourite dress or skirt.
